This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to cyclobenzaprine, or if you have congestive heart failure, heart rhythm problems, a recent heart attack, or overactive thyroid.How to Use This Medicine:
Long Acting Capsule, Liquid, Tablet
- Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed. Take this medicine at the same time each day.
- Swallow the extended-release capsule whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it.
- Capsule: If you cannot swallow the capsule whole, you may open the capsule and sprinkle the contents over 1 tablespoon of applesauce. Swallow the mixture right away without chewing. Rinse the mouth to make sure all of the medicine has been swallowed. Do not save any of the mixture to use later.
- Sublingual tablet:
- Drink a few sips of water before taking this medicine to make sure your mouth is moist to lessen numbness of the mouth. Take this medicine after brushing teeth.
- Do not cut, crush, chew, or swallow it.
- Place the tablet under the tongue until it is dissolved.
- Do not eat or drink for at least 15 minutes until the tablets are completely dissolved. Do not drink hot, cold, or acidic drinks until the morning.
- Do not talk for at least 5 minutes after taking this medicine.
- This medicine is not for long-term use.
- Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose. If you miss a dose of the sublingual tablet, take the next dose at your regular time. Do not double doses.
- Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Do not use this medicine if you are using or have used an MAO inhibitor (MAOI) within the past 14 days.
- Some foods and medicines can affect how cyclobenzaprine works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following:
- Bupropion, guanethidine, meperidine, tramadol, verapamil
- Medicine to treat depression (including amitriptyline, imipramine, SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs)
- Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine.
- Tell your doctor if you use anything else that makes you sleepy. Some examples are allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, and alcohol.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- Tonmya: It is not safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. It could harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. If you can get pregnant, your doctor may do tests to make sure you are not pregnant before starting this medicine. Use an effective form of birth control to keep from getting pregnant during treatment with this medicine and for 2 weeks after the last dose.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or a history of glaucoma, increased pressure in the eye, trouble urinating, or seizures.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:
- Serotonin syndrome, when used with certain medicines
- Mouth problems
- This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or doing anything that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.
- Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Anxiety, restlessness, fever, sweating, twitching, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seeing or hearing things that are not there
- Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
- Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches
- Numbness, tingling, discomfort, or pain in your mouth, teeth, or tongue
- Rapid weight gain, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
- Severe drowsiness, dizziness, fainting, or confusion
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Dry mouth
- Sores or ulcers on your lips, mouth, or throat
- Tiredness
- Unusual taste or other taste changes
