This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to ioflupane I 123.How to Use This Medicine:
Injectable
- A doctor or other trained health professional will give you this medicine. This medicine is given through an IV catheter that is placed into one of your veins just before you have a SPECT scan.
- You will need to urinate right away and as often as possible for 48 hours after you receive this medicine. Drink plenty of fluids before and after you receive this medicine so you will urinate more often.
- Your doctor may give you iodine solution at least 1 hour before receiving this medicine to help prevent thyroid problems.
- Your doctor may also give you other medicines (including allergy medicine, steroid) before, during, or after receiving this medicine.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Some medicines can affect how ioflupane I 123 works. Tell your doctor if you are using amoxapine, amphetamine, armodafinil, benztropine, bupropion, buspirone, citalopram, cocaine, mazindol, methamphetamine, methylphenidate, modafinil, norephedrine, paroxetine, phentermine, phenylpropanolamine, selegiline, or sertraline.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if you have kidney disease.
- Your doctor may tell you to pump and discard your breast milk for 6 days after you receive this medicine.
- While receiving this medicine, you will be exposed to radiation. If you have any questions about this, talk to your doctor.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Dry mouth
- Headache, dizziness, nausea
- Pain, itching, burning, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor
